Sharing Artistic Gifts
June 2026
The last few days have included multiple celebrations of artistic talent, including the Truro Music Festival Awards concert and the Stagecoach Nova Scotia North end-of-year performance. I consider it an honour to be invited to both of these events with my cameras to help capture memories and celebrate the hard work of these young performers.
I'm proud of this work and the joyful moments in time that I've been able to capture, but I leave the sharing of those photos to the organizers who invited me. It matters to me that I have consent to post photos with any recognizable faces.
Graduate Portraits

I have known E's family for a long time, so when I heard that she wasn't thrilled with the grad photos that she had done with another photographer it was natural to say yes when I was asked if I could help out.
E is such a warm, open-hearted and delightful woman that the time flew and it was so simple to catch all the joy of this life milestone. I really enjoyed chatting all through this photoshoot (and the red thread in the forest idea that we came up with for a couple's photo sometime has me thinking about the flash setup I want to use to get it to really pop!). Congrats E - I cannot wait to hear where life takes you next!
Where is the
time going?

I think every parent must ask this question all the time - but it makes me so grateful for photos to hold onto moments big and small.
This month I got invites to support two different school musicals by providing headshot services - and since one of the groups includes my own KNix, we took some time to do a home photoshoot. First making sure to get a headshot that satisfies those high tween standards and then switching to some fun lifestyle pictures to capture current passions - writing, Asian food and culture, reading (especially Demon Slayer manga) and music.
Supporting Community Sport
Winter 2026
Throughout the winter, I had the very good fortune to get to spend time supporting athletes not only from the school I work at (sharing photos to a dedicated Instagram account and making even more freely available to athletes and families) but also in our community. I got to see a unique outdoor curling game for Curling Day in Canada 2026 , I got to dance through life alongside a fabulous Special Olympics athlete as he trained for competition, and to spend an afternoon with the Truro Lions as they hosted an indoor throws competition. Can't wait to get outside for some spring and summer sports!
Winter Family Portraits

It was a cold morning for this hardy family of five who invited me to do a back yard portrait session. What they say about cold hands and warm hearts proved to be true as they laughed and joked all through our shots. The love in every moment was evident and had me itching to get to editing the whole drive home!

Holiday season 2025
Voice studio recitals, concerts rescheduled due to massive power outages, holiday cabarets, a thoughtful gift of a vintage camera . . . not to mention so much love and joy.
This holiday season was one to remember and all of us in the CNix family are looking forward to what the new year has to bring us!
November Round up
November 2025
November is report card season for teachers which meant a little less time for photography. But I still managed to block out time to spend with one of my favourite musical groups to get some holiday images in support of their Christmas show - and it was a magical afternoon.
I also got to help support the Truro Curling Club Revitalization Project with some Christmas Card mini sessions (KNix graciously posed for some demo shots), and to spend a really cool afternoon doing professional and lifestyle photos.
Family Farm Portraits

Thanksgiving weekend, fall colours, cloud at the top of Nutby . . . it was a beautiful morning to capture the fabulous relaxed energy of this adorable family on their farm. I love seeing personalities emerge during as session and it was so fun to see how the kids sparkled while
introducing me to their chickens and ducks. I am not going to forget the parade of ducks or how the cows casually photobombed us any time soon. But I have to say, my very favourite part of this was hearing how happy the family is and looking forward to more photos with them in the future!
September Round-up
September 2025
I've been so fortunate to have some incredible opportunities this September to work with fabulous people and make some images that I'm proud of.
Billie Gibson of Skin Decision Truro has the most amazing smile and their energy is infectious. We had a lot of fun discussing posing, lighting and psychology during our session and their kind review meant the world to me.
A little later in the month, I was a last minute invite to an intimate backyard wedding. It is always a privilege to get to see more love in the world, and an honour to help turn memories of the day into images that will last a lifetime.
And as September closed out, I got to help transform disappointment into opportunity for a local trio via a relaxed sunset photo session. When I first dreamed of starting CNix Photography, working with this group was on my wish list and I feel so blessed to have them trust me with this chance!

Athletics, Arts and Yearbooks

September is back-to-school season in my part of the world . . . which means that I am back at one of my favourite ways to volunteer : school event photography! I can often be spotted in my orange or blue gear at school events capturing memories for students or families. These photos are separate from CNix Photography because I am there as a teacher supporting students and helping build a library of images for the yearbook. Students and families are welcome to those photos free of charge and can check with the coach / staff advisor to get access to the images.
Aurora Hunting
September 2025
In my day job, I am a Physics and Math teacher - in other words, a great big nerd! Which means that I love getting the chance to see and photograph a lot of different space-related events. Especially when they tie into things that I get to teach about.
Back in April of 2024, I had the opportunity to photograph the total solar eclipse and got some images that I am really proud of. But when a big northern lights event happened in May of that year, I was under the weather and missed it.
Happily for me, the Sun is in a stage of its cycle where it has been quite active and there have been lots of opportunities to photograph the northern lights (aka the aurora borealis). In October of 2024, a friend and I drove out to Mount Nutby and had our breath taken away by naked-eye visible shimmering lights. That's when I learned to take the lens filter off when photographing this amazing sight! More recently, just before the new school year I got a chance to go aurora hunting again and despite low cloud cover on the horizon, I managed some fun shots near Upperbrook Farm and had a beautiful evening to wrap up my summer vacation.

Headshots - Wink Day Spa
I've been a client of Wink Day Spa for more than a decade, which made it such a treat to have the opportunity recently to do staff headshots to help update their website and social media posts. These folks are so friendly and welcoming, and one of the highlights for the experience for me was to hear the owner Renee speak about some of the new offerings at the spa this fall and her hope that they will be able to help people in a way that goes much deeper than appearances.
For this project, I brought lighting gear and a backdrop to the spa to set up a mini-studio on location. Staff were able to come see me as part of their scheduled work day and it was a treat to get to learn a bit about their favourite parts of their jobs and share some posing tips as we got our shots. It was so hard to choose just a few shots per person to finalize! Once my on-site work was done, it was time to start on the edits : for business headshots, the balance of consistent visuals with amazing personalities.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how these images are used, and to my next business headshot session!
