Your Shot
Bringing the studio experience to you at home or the location of your choice, as your photographer I am a part of your team to get a moment in time to stand still for you. I want the process to be enjoyable and as natural as possible for you - and I want your unique character to shine through in your finished images.

Booking a photography session

The first step is to choose your photographer (and thank you for considering me!). It is important that you like your photographer's style, because this has a huge impact on your experience and the finished photos.
If you haven't done so already, it's time to figure out what kind of photography session you are interested in. This helps you know what options to look for when you book. My primary types of photography are described below.
Headshots
Classic Portraits
Lifestyle
Feature head, neck, shoulders and especially expression to convey personality with a purpose. A full session may include additional locations and/or wardrobe changes; these sessions involve the most direction for how to hold or move your body in relation to the camera. Headshots may be included with some classic portrait sessions.
Classic for a reason - you want to showcase feelings and connections using the body and setting; portraits should help you hold onto precious memories. The number of possible poses and groupings of people in the session is related to the length of time booked. Portrait sessions often include some lifestyle elements as well.
Tell who you are and what you love with photographs that highlight your talents, traits, and interests. This style of photography really leans into a candid feeling, often using silent shutter and minimal flash to avoid interruptions or distractions. Lifestyle portraits work well for people of all ages who find the idea of posed pictures to be off-putting.

Getting Your Images
I will send you a short digital form to complete to help me get ideas and start to plan. At the same time, I will send information about how to make a deposit to confirm your booking. Before your session, I will check that we have similar ideas for the images and I will share some tips to help everyone be prepared. A day or two before your session, we will confirm times, locations and expected fees.
When your session arrives, we will meet and as I do any final set up we will chat about the planned work flow. This lets you know what to expect, why I ask might ask you to adjust your position, and gives you a little warning about anything that may feel silly. As I shoot, I will work in some appropriate breaks to let everyone reset for their authentic best.
Within two weeks, you will receive a link to your password-protected gallery to be able to view your images. You'll be given a code to be able to download the number of images included with your session fee and you can choose to purchase extras for a small additional fee.
Please note that at this time, I do not offer print services.
FAQ
This is my first photoshoot, what should I know?
Telling me what you are hoping for and what you are worried about will help you to get the best final product possible. I'll work with you to make this as simple, relaxed and fun as possibly while we aim for your goals!
What should I wear?
The answer to this one depends on your goals, but the short answer is that you should only buy new clothes for photos if you really want to.
It is usually a good idea to wear clothing that suits the feeling you want for your photos and to avoid clothing that will create challenges in your location or be visually distracting.
For family photos, clothing that goes together and is chosen from shades of the same 2-3 colours often works well.
In terms of makeup, a photo session is generally a good time to reach for matte products over shimmer or high gloss. Too much shine can be distracting in an image and may end up leading to your photos feeling dated more quickly than you'd like.
How many pictures will I receive?
Your session fee will include a certain number of images to download, and your gallery will typically include twice that number of images for you to choose from. Extra images can be purchased at a small additional fee per image.
Are you available outside of Truro?
Subject to my schedule, I am available throughout central Nova Scotia and HRM. A small fee to compensate for travel time and costs may apply.
Do you do wedding photography?
I can absolutely work with couples with small/intimate weddings who are looking for coverage for few hours. What a privilege to share your day with you!
However, I do not currently have the resources to be able to promise high quality, all-day full coverage of a large event and I wouldn't feel right falling short of everything you deserve for photography of your big bash.
How can you help my small business?
A combination of headshots, lifestyle images and lay-flat photography can go a long way in helping you to promote your business.
Running a small business is a lot of hard work - especially when you have to fuss with getting your cell phone angled just right, trying to find just the right frame from a video clip to turn into an image to post, or having to wait for those ten minutes when the light from your window is just right. Let me take some of that load off your shoulders and help you get a gallery of images to meet all your branding needs.
